Hello, hello my friends!
I’m afraid it’s another one of those times where I’m going to have to apologize for and explain my long absence. I never intend for them to happen, that I promise, but life happens and we get caught up in the whirlwind of it all.
I know some of you remember the last long absence I had – due to a crippling depressive episode – and have been worried, but I assure you: ALL IS WELL! I’m doing great, my depression is being held in check with a series of natural supplements, a good sleep schedule, lots of natural light, and so forth.
So, why was I gone? Well lots of reasons….
Two words: Grad. School. No doubt my undergraduate school over-prepped me for the quality of work I’d be doing (no problem there), they sure didn’t prep me with having to read twice the amount of books. Chewing through 30 books in four months is a time suck, I can tell you that much.
I also, after 5 miserable years, left that horrible job! Praise Jesus! By the end of it was was getting spontaneous nose bleeds at my desk from the stress – so I’m happy to be away. I’m now working for a smaller company that treats its employees pretty dang good, if I do say so myself. It’s near stress free, and the only downfall is that I work over nights (it’s about 3:45am EST as I’m writing this and I have another 4 hours of my shift).
In other news: I got married! Yep – this past August my partner of 3 years (friends for 6) and I decided to take the plunge. He’s the perfect, calm compliment to my zany extroversion and I’m happy to have him with me as I make this journey through life, peace, justice and grad school.
If that weren’t enough, we bought our first house. It’s kind of exciting and it’s got me onto a sustainable decorating kick. The house is pretty stark right now, but the plan is to do some yard sale-ing and estate sale-ing this summer to furnish it with used goods that we can spiff up in some sort of way. I’m waiting for this rotten winter to be finished so that I can hang my Sky Chairs and Tibetan prayer flags and big Palestinian flag on my front porch. Gotta let the neighborhood know that the weirdos are next door. 🙂
I’m taking a trip to Greece this summer to spend some time with friends as well as to learn more about the refugee crisis that’s occurring on the islands. I do plan to blog and photograph while I’m there – of course. I’ll be posting them to my Instagram like I did when I was in Israel. I’m excited for this next adventure.
Speaking of Israel – I’ve applied to return to Palestine sometime in the fall (which allows me to take a needed semester off from school). I’m still composing all the elements needed for the application, and it won’t be reviewed until mid-April. I probably won’t know anything for sure until at least May. BUT – I’ll keep you all in the loop as much as I can. I’m eager to go back – I miss the land, the people and work. So, keep me in your prayers if you pray, or keep your fingers crossed, or send good vibes out – whatever it is that you do. 🙂
Also about Palestine – I’m giving a talk in 2 weeks about the Occupation, my experiences in Israel/Palestine while I was there, and then connecting it to what I think the Christian response should be. If you’re in the upstate, NY area and are interested in coming drop me a line (you can send an email through the CONTACT button at the top of the page or click here) and I’ll give you all the details.
What else…? Oh! We’re getting a new pup in about 2 weeks – a bull mastiff which my partner has graciously allowed me to name Lennon in keeping with the music theme of the rest of my animals (Rudy, Frehley and Murphy). I’ll make sure we post photos once he’s welcomed home.
That’s all for now.
How are you doing?
